Housing situation of living Roma minority in Jindřichův Hradec
MELOUNOVÁ, Edita
Roma minority is the most visible and important national minority of Czech society. It belongs to our marginal groups. Majority of the society sees Roma people as "gypsies" who avoid work and civic duties, and as individuals abusing social benefits incapable of ordinary living and standard neighborly relations. For this reason, since childhood, they feel insecure, rejected, and they live in poverty. There is no doubt that they are discriminated, especially when they look for decent housing and also when they look for a job. My bachelor thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and research. In the first theoretical part I have described and explained the basic terms that relate to social exclusion, Roma minority as a socially excluded group, socially excluded localities, social situation of their inhabitants etc. In the research part I have described the methods used to elaborate the research. I worked on the given problem with qualitative research using a case study of the examined persons, through semi-structured interviews with men and women who consider themselves to be Roma living in Jindřichův Hradec in two apartment buildings and one excluded locality. I performed the evaluation of the results in the form of open coding, and then I created categories and subcategories from the information obtained. The research group consists of a total of six informants who were selected by the "snowball" method, when thanks to the recommendation of the owner of one of the apartment buildings I got contact to my first informant. My first informant helped me to arrange a meeting with other members of the group I examined. The results of the research were evaluated according to predetermined topics and compared with the literature in the chapter "Discussion". The research showed that living in an excluded location has a worse impact on Roma people than living in private apartment buildings. The research results showed that the excluded locality does not have sufficiently equipped flats, the availability of services in the neighborhood is not satisfactory, there are more health and psychological problems due to housing and last but not least there are unfavorable hygienic conditions. The problem is that the Jindřichův Hradec itself does not consider the locality on the outskirts of the city to be excluded, despite the fact about that is recorded in maps of socially excluded localities of the European Social fund in the Czech Republic. It is necessary for the city to realize this fact and stop running before the situation, because otherwise the current situation cannot be resolved. It is true that the city has recently been trying to keep the building in better condition, but the location remains excluded because of inhabitants and because of the location of the property. The key issue of people living in an excluded location is the loss of motivation to live more dignified. The longer they face social exclusion, the more difficult it is to return to normal life in the majority society. The loss of motivation for these people arises as a result of the barriers to their social integration. These barriers are almost insurmountable for them without help. It would be advisable to work systematically to integrate the inhabitants of the excluded locality into the life of the majority society of the city and to support the Roma people and the socially weaker people to the potential social rise.

Excluded localities in the media discourse
BŘEČKOVÁ, Gabriela
This diploma thesis is focused on identifying the image of excluded localities in media discourse. During the recent few years, the media have been forming the views of the majority population of the Roma minority, while the concept of social exclusion in the Czech Republic has been used most often in relation to the localities inhabited mostly by the members of the Roma minority. Excluded localities have become a very hot topic in the media and the media have been presenting excluded localities as problematic in terms of unemployment, poverty, maximum use of social welfare by their inhabitants, housing problems, crime, organized crime, disorder and problems with school attendance of the children.
